What you learn :
Learning to shoot in full manual – learning when the ‘correct’ exposure is not the “right exposure”, learning how your environment can help you get the right exposure even in tricky light, dealing with challenging light situations, using exposure creatively to reflect your vision. The thing we hear most after the course is : “I’m never going back to priprity modes!!!”
Advanced composition – learning what makes a strong image and learning to create your own, consistently, with the help of our advanced composition techniques – beyond the rule of thirds. This is a part with a lot of introspection and discovering what makes YOU ‘click’
Visual storytelling and creating connection to create images which go beyond just pretty – it’s ALWAYS about a story, even with a simple portrait and even if you can’t see anyone’s face. Learning to see and capture your family stories.
Learning to photograph genuine emotions and connection – how to capture genuine connection with your subject and their true emotions – whether happy or mad! Going beyond the smiles or frowny faces to portray your children’s true selves and capturing the moment. Using body language and other creative means – from colour theory, editing style and more!
Photographing a Love letter to your child – how you see them and their uniqueness through your camera lens.
Learning to see the light – better! Making the most of light around you and finding your best light anywhere – inside or out. Learning to ‘read’ the light in photographs and seeing the light potential of any location. Understanding shadows and how you can use them to make your subject stand out.
Introduction to Flash – whether you only have a pop up flash or a ‘proper’ flashgun, we’ll show you how to use it in your photography to compliment low light, support it and to still look natural.
Finding your style and exploring your creativity. Expressing YOURSELF through photography – it’s about what you see, your emotions, your connection, your vision
A few comments from our most recent Level 2 course
“I was in two minds about whether to do level 2 and I’m so glad I did. I have loved the switch to manual but I particularly enjoyed love letter week as it got me photographing things and noticing things in my children that I had never thought of before. My biggest ah ha moment was the second week learning about exposure. I love how I can now get those lovely light and bright pictures of my children.” – Kate Munday
“Shooting in manual and loving it. I literally can’t imagine going back to using camera modes now. I love the freedom it gives to create different shots without any editing, just using the light in different ways.” – Rebecca Cramer
“My biggest ah ha moment – probably the use of light and shadows to add life and depth to an image. Also how light I initially considered frustrating can give lovely images when used in the right way – hot spots and covered shade for example.I’ve also been able to combine story telling with composition and highlight some of my little ones characteristics which is know will change so quickly.” – Laura Quinn
